HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - A Connecticut psychiatrist and her husband have agreed pay $400,000 to settle a civil lawsuit alleging they orchestrated a scheme to submit false claims to Medicaid.
Attorney General George Jepsen said Tuesday the settlement agreement was approved last week by a Hartford Superior Court judge.
Prosecutors say Dr. Ashwini Sabnis and her husband, Saurav "Sam" Mohanty, submitted false claims for services that were not provided and claims that were "upcoded," meaning the provider knowingly uses a higher-paying code on the claim form.
Prosecutors say Sabnis and Mohanty then retained and concealed the resulting overpayment from January 2010 through at least July 2012.
Under the terms of the settlement, Sabnis and Mohanty did not admit liability.
