Former housing director sentence to 2 years in bribery case

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - A former housing director in West Haven has been sentenced to two years in federal prison for accepting bribes.

Fifty-six-year-old Micheal Siwek was sentenced Friday. He had pleaded guility in September, 2014 to a bribery conspiracy charge and one count of tax evasion.

Prosecutors say Prosecutors say Siwek took more than $1.5 million in bribes from 2007 to 2012 in return for awarding business and contracts with the Housing Authority.

In addition to his prison term, U.S. District Judge Michael Shea ordered Siwek to pay $1.5 million restitution and $363,000 in back taxes.
