Connecticut woman pleads guilty in $1.6M Medicaid scam

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) A Connecticut woman has pleaded guilty to her role in defrauding Medicaid out of about $1.6 million.

The Republican-American reports that 61-year-old Patricia Lafayette of Torrington entered the plea Monday to health care fraud in federal court in Bridgeport.

Court documents say Lafayette was charged as part of an investigation that revealed Medicaid was billed for psychotherapy services that were either performed by unlicensed individuals or not performed at all.

Authorities say Lafayette and Anne Silver, a marriage and family therapist, created false bills for therapy to collect payments from the federal system from 2011 until 2015.

Silver pleaded guilty last year and is awaiting sentencing. A sentencing date hasn't yet been scheduled for Lafayette.
