Connecticut highway where a man shot himself reopens

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - A Connecticut highway where a man shot himself has reopened.

Firefighters responded to a van fire on Interstate 84 east in Hartford, near exit 46, Friday morning.

The man was walking near the burning vehicle when firefighters and state police arrived, then he shot himself.

No one else was injured.

Police say the man is from Bristol, but have not publicly identified him.

He was taken to a Hartford hospital.

A section of the highway was closed in both directions, snarling traffic for hours. Authorities urged motorists to avoid the area.

Both sides of the highway have reopened.
