BURLINGTON, Conn. (AP) - A former police officer in Connecticut has been charged with possessing child pornography.

WFSB-TV reports 48-year-old Mark Dichiara was arrested Tuesday. He is charged with promoting a minor in obscene material and first-degree possession of child pornography.

Dichiara was formerly a Newington police officer. He retired in 2012.

Police launched an investigation in April over the alleged sharing of child pornography over the internet.

Police say they found files containing child porn in Dichiara's Burlington home.

Dichiara was released on a $100,000 bond. He is expected to appear in court on Sept. 26.
