State police ID suspect, officers in Stratford shoot-out

STRATFORD, Conn. (AP) Connecticut State Police have released the identity of a suspect who they say exchanged gunfire with two officers in Stratford earlier this week.

Trooper First Class Kelly Grant says 40-year-old Timothy Johnson is recovering at Bridgeport Hospital following Wednesday's shoot-out in the Lordship section of the Fairfield County town.

Also released were the names of two officers who shot at Johnson 52-year-old Brian McCarthy and 25-year-old Louis Arbelo. Both officers have been placed on paid administrative leave while the investigation into the shooting continues.

Police say McCarthy and Abelo were dispatched to Stratford's waterfront area following reports of an armed man. At the scene the officers encountered Johnson, who police say fired at the men first before he was wounded.

Criminal charges against Johnson have not been announced.
