Woman dead after Greenwich house fire

GREENWICH, Conn. (AP) - Fire officials say an elderly woman has died after a house fire in Greenwich.

The victim, whose name was not made public pending notification of family, was pulled from the house at about 2 p.m. Sunday and was pronounced dead at Stamford Hospital.

Fire Chief Peter Siecenski tells the Greenwich Time that firefighters found the woman in a first-floor room adjacent to the two-bay garage. He says the garage is believed to be where the fire started.

The fire was out within 15 minutes of the fire department arriving.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
