6-year-old girl dies in Connecticut house fire

PLAINFIELD, Conn. (AP) - Authorities say a 6-year-old girl has died in a house fire in Connecticut.

The fire in Plainfield in the eastern part of the state was reported at about 10:45 p.m. Wednesday and crews arrived to find the home fully engulfed.

A 911 call indicated that there were people trapped inside.

An 18-month-old child and an adult woman were pulled to safety through a window and taken to the hospital. A man also escaped and was taken to the hospital. The victim was found dead inside. Their names were not made public.

Two police officers were also treated for smoke inhalation.

Plainfield fire marshal Paul Yellen tells WFSB-TV that the house was a Habitat for Humanity home built three months ago.

The cause is under investigation.
