State drops sex assault charges against Connecticut doctor

AVON, Conn. (AP) - Prosecutors have dropped all 14 charges against a Connecticut doctor who had been accused of sexually assaulting female patients.

The Courant reports that the state dropped the charges on Thursday following an independent review by an outside doctor who looked at the medical records of nine women who accused Dr. Khosro Pourkavoos of inappropriately touching their breasts and groin areas.

In court filings, defense attorneys wrote that police had evidence that alleged examinations did not occur as reported, witnesses were not truthful, and that the doctor's examinations were "medically justified and appropriate."

The Avon doctor was free on $195,000 bond after pleading not guilty at his initial court appearance in June 2014.

Prosecutors say many of the women were disappointed that charges were dropped.

Pourkavoos still faces several lawsuits.
