Connecticut man gets 12 years for shooting over dirty dishes

STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) - A Connecticut man was sentenced to 12 years in prison earlier this week for the 2012 shooting of his sister's boyfriend following a dispute over dirty dishes.

The Stamford Advocate reports 26-year-old Terrence Peterson also was sentenced to an additional four years behind bars for injuring a corrections officer during a jailhouse fight following his arrest in the shooting.

Howard Ehring, Peterson's attorney, says his client's assault conviction substantially increased his prison sentence for the shooting.

Police say Peterson shot his sister's boyfriend in the chest after arguing with her over dirty dishes left in the sink of a home at the Roodner Court public housing community in Norwalk.

Senior Assistant State's Attorney Maureen Ornousky says Peterson has a history of substance abuse and mental health issues.
