Woman being held in Connecticut prison dies

NIANTIC, Conn. (AP) Prisons officials say a Massachusetts woman being held at a Connecticut prison has died.

A spokeswoman for the Connecticut Department of Correction tells The Day of New London that officials at the York Correctional Institution in Niantic were conducting a routine medical assessment of 29-year-old Alexandra Low on Tuesday when they determined she should be taken to the facility's medical unit. The Longmeadow, Massachusetts, woman was then transferred to an outside hospital by ambulance where she died.

The state medical examiner is conducting an autopsy to determine the cause of death and state police are investigating.

Low and a man were arrested Monday on drug charges after a motorist reported seeing two people injecting drugs in a moving vehicle. Low was being held on $7,500 bail.
