SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) - Massachusetts State Police say the driver of a vehicle that crashed in Springfield after a high-speed police chase that started in Connecticut has died.

Massachusetts troopers were alerted at about 12:30 a.m. Friday that Connecticut State Police were pursuing a car that had refused to stop for them on Interstate 91 north.

Connecticut troopers broke off the pursuit at the state lane and a short time later a Massachusetts trooper spotted the vehicle and gave chase at speeds of up to 100 mph.

The car lost control when trying to take an exit ramp in Springfield and crashed. The male driver, and lone occupant of the vehicle, was taken to the hospital where he died.
