New Haven man fatally shot near SCSU campus

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - New Haven police are investigating the slaying of a local man who was fatally shot overnight near the Southern Connecticut State University campus.

Police spokesman David Hartman says 30-year-old Dyrail Martaye Reddick suffered multiple gunshot wounds in a parking lot outside an apartment complex.

Hartman says officers from New Haven and neighboring Hamden were dispatched to the scene shortly after 3 a.m. Thursday after a report of several gunshots.

Reddick was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators believe Reddick was shot following an argument.

Hartman says authorities captured and detained one of two men who crashed a car into a tree and fled on foot shortly after the shooting. Police say it remains unclear whether the pair was involved.
