Hartford police investigate shooting of man sitting in car

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Hartford police are investigating the death of a man they believe was shot while sitting in a car.

Deputy Chief Brian Foley tells the Hartford Courant the man was discovered Friday morning, in a grassy lot at the corner of Maple Avenue and Bond Street. Foley says he was apparently sitting in the vehicle when shots were fired. He says police believe "he got out of the car, ran and collapsed."

The man, who appears to be in his 20s, was taken to Hartford Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

He has not yet been identified.

An NBC Connecticut television crew at the scene reports the car was damaged by gunfire. Police believe the shooting is drug-related.

This story has been corrected to show the man was found in a grassy lot after apparently being shot in a car.
