HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) New campaign finance records show Republican Linda McMahon has spent $42.6 million on her latest Connecticut Senate race, nearly matching what she spent on her first campaign in 2010.
The documents filed with the U.S. Senate and obtained Friday by The Associated Press show McMahon loaned her campaign another $3.3 million on Tuesday. Much of McMahon's spending has been on television advertising.
McMahon spent $50 million of her own money in the 2010 race she lost to Democrat Richard Blumenthal. She said afterward she wouldn't have to spend nearly as much on a second campaign because she would be better known by voters.
A Quinnipiac University Poll released Wednesday showed Democratic U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy leading McMahon by 6 percentage points.
