FBI returns to Conn. Capitol, talk to Senate GOP

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) The FBI is back at the Connecticut state Capitol and this time investigators are talking to a Senate Republican caucus official.

Brett Cody, the caucus spokesman, said two federal investigators spoke briefly Wednesday with Jack Shannon, the caucus' chief of staff. Cody said the meeting was part of the investigation into the House Republicans' hiring of certain companies for campaign mailings.

Cody said Shannon answered the investigators' questions and was told he's not a focus of the inquiry. Unlike the House Republicans, Cody said the Senate Republicans have not been served any subpoenas.

Last month, the House GOP's chief of staff, George Gallo, resigned after GOP representatives were asked whether they felt pressured to use a particular printing vendor. Gallo has said he's a person of interest in the probe.
