Traffic stop leads to heroin bust in Waterbury

WATERBURY, Conn. (AP) Connecticut state police say a traffic stop in Waterbury led a trooper to a drug bust and a large bag of heroin.

Police said Friday the trooper tried to stop a man for not wearing a seatbelt on I-84 when he turned off an exit ramp, jumped out of the car and started running on foot. The man escaped after a pursuit on Tuesday but the trooper seized 740 bags of heroin along with the suspect's driver's license.

Police said they arrested 38-year-old Jerome Trent of Waterbury on Friday on charges including traffic violations and distribution of a controlled substance near school grounds.

It was not immediately known if he is represented by an attorney.
