Police: Man attempted arson at prosecutor's office

NORWALK, Conn. (AP) A man has been charged with attempting to set fire to a prosecutor's office last year in Norwalk.

Authorities say 47-year-old Joseph Stephenson of Stamford is charged with arson, burglary, criminal mischief and interfering with a search warrant. He is currently an inmate at the MacDougall Correctional Institution in Suffield.

An intruder broke into the state's attorney's office at Norwalk Superior Court on the night of March 3, 2013. State police say officers responding to an alarm saw a suspect flee through a rear door and there was evidence that someone tried to start a fire.

He is charged with interference because he allegedly refused to provide a DNA sample after he was identified as a suspect. It was not immediately clear whether he has an attorney.
