Conn. man charged in police chase last year

STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) Police in Connecticut have charged a 39-year-old man in connection with a year-old police chase that spanned 20 miles across the state line into New York on Interstate 95.

Manuel Vidal of Bridgeport is accused of ramming several police cruisers and injuring four police officers during the afternoon chase on March 22, 2013 before he crashed into a New York state trooper's car and was arrested in New Rochelle, N.Y.

Vidal was arraigned Wednesday in Stamford Superior Court on numerous charges including assaulting police officers and reckless driving. He had been in police custody in New York on charges there and recently was turned over to Stamford police.

Connecticut State Police also intend to charge Vidal.

Vidal is detained on bail. His public defender didn't immediately return a message Thursday.
