Pit bull suspected in Waterbury attacks is caught

WATERBURY, Conn. (AP) Waterbury police say a pit bull that attacked a 76-year-old man twice while terrorizing a neighborhood has been captured and faces the possibility of being put down.

Acting Deputy Police Chief Christopher Corbett says authorities found the dog Monday and are seeking approval to euthanize it. Corbett says the pit bull's owner will be fined for allowing the dog to roam and may also face a criminal charge under a local dog ordinance. Police haven't released the dog owner's name.

City resident Leo Forget was attacked by the pit bull on Sunday for the second time in two months while walking his American Eskimo dog. He suffered cuts and bruises and was given tetanus and rabies shots.

Residents say the dog also has attacked a woman and other pets.
