Danbury's Fire Department has put out a fire on a school bus this morning. The fire broke out around 8:16 am in the area of Coalpit Hill Road and Harrison Street. Assistant Fire Chief Mark O'Masta says the bus driver stopped the bus after noticing mechanical problems and took four children off the bus.
The bus then caught fire in the engine compartment and spread to the passenger seats. The fire on the bus spread quickly and was fully involved when firefighters arrived. It has now been extinguished. The four children are safe . They were on the bus headed to Broadview Middle School for summer school classes .
There is possible damage to electrical wires and phone wires. Eversource energy and frontier communications have between in to check for damage. Police blocked off Coalpit Hill Road in the area of the fire, which is near Rogers Park.
