A barricaded man killed himself in a Southbury hotel yesterday. State Police responded to Wyndham Hotel shortly before 12:30pm on a report of a suicidal man. Southbury Police, State Police Tactical Unit and K9s responded.

The man, later identified as 38-year old Drew Carlson, a guest of the hotel, was pronounced dead on the scene, with self-inflicted injury. Carlson was a Danbury Police sergeant. While there is no criminal aspect, Western District Major Crime detectives will conduct an investigation. The Office of Chief Medical Examiner will conduct a post-mortem exam.
Carlson began his career with the Danbury Police Department in April 2004. He has previously served as a member of the agency’s recruiting team and a field training officer. Carlson was promoted to sergeant in February 2016. He received a meritorious citation in 2014 and earned numerous letters of commendation and appreciation.
