There was a disagreement at this month's Danbury City Council meeting over the target age group for proposed basketball courts. Funding for two courts was included in the current year's budget, but there has been no announced site for the outdoor recreation facilities.
City Councilman Duane Perkins believes the basketball courts should be for residents 18 and older. Mayor Mark Boughton believes the older players should be paying for a gym membership and not running younger kids off the courts.
Boughton previously said that they money might not actually be available, and that the City's needs would have to be taken into consideration. If more classrooms are needed for example, Boughton says that would take priority over basketball courts.
Boughton says they're still searching for a place that's centrally located, and visible from the roadway. He notes that the City, liability-wise, has to be careful where they are placed.
