New York State Police stepped up motor vehicle law enforcement over the weekend for the end of the Independence Day week. Troopers removed 20 impaired drivers from the roadway in the Putnam County area.
Among those charged was 23-year old Shawn Smith Jr of Los Angeles. He was found sleeping in his vehicle blocking the Interstate 684 off ramp to Danbury Road in Southeast on Sunday.
Troopers charged 34-year old Juan Escobar Martinez of Danbury on Saturday after he struck a parked car on Main Street in Brewster. An investigation revealed that he was impaired by alcohol.
25-year old Bruno Souza of Danbury was pulled over on I-84 in Southeast on Friday for a vehicle and traffic law violation. In addition to a DWI, Souza was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation and bail jumping.
On Saturday, State Police charged 24-year old Roberto Rubio Melendez of Carmel for DWI after pulling him over on Route 6 in Brewster.
On Sunday, 27-year old Brian Huber of Dix Hills was stopped on Route 22 in Patterson and determined to be intoxicated. 22-year old Jorge Pereira of Danbury was stopped on 684 in Southeast for a vehicle and traffic law violation, which led to a DWI charge. 26-year old Marco Dubon Gonzalez of Stamford was charged after being stopped on Route 22 in Southeast.
