The Putnam County Sheriff's Department is starting its annual New York State Sheriffs' Institute Annual Membership Drive soon.  Residents may receive a letter from Sheriff Kevin McConville asking to become an honorary member by making  a tax-deductible gift of $25.  Membership is open to everyone.  This is the organization's primary fundraiser used to support the Sheriffs' Summer Camp.  Each year up to 840 kids from across the state attend this camp at no cost to their families.  McConville says these kids are economically disadvantaged and would not otherwise get this chance.
