Bethel Police Department has received an increased number of calls regarding attempted scams over the phone. No government agency or utility company will contact residents directly and request a payment through Bitcoin or any other crypto currency. Bethel Police say these scams are designed to seem legitimate, but they are not.  Anyone who feels they have been scammed are encouraged to contact the utility provider involved, using the number posted on their website.
