Chamber Music Tonight

The Danbury Music Centre is presenting An Evening of Chamber Music tonight, at the Centre’s Anderson Recital Hall on Main Street in Danbury. Members will perform in their chamber ensembles to raise money for the programs of the Danbury Music Centre. Donations will be accepted at the door, and parking is available on the street and in the Bardo Parking Garage directly behind the Danbury Music Centre on Library Place. Handicapped parking is available in the garage adjacent to the elevators.


Great Plain Event Today

All this week, Great Plain Elementary School has been taking part in Sandy Hook Promise’s Start With Hello Week, which teaches students in grades K-5 the skills they need to reach out to and include those who may be dealing with chronic social isolation. Today, Great Plain Elementary is joining schools across the Nation and
celebrating National No One Eats Alone Day. They invite you to have lunch with students and to participate in icebreaker activities at the school today. Contact Great Plain Elementary School this morning for all the details.


Irish Festival Postponed

Because of the weather forecast, the Greater Danbury Irish Festival has been postponed. The event will now be held the weekend of October 7th and 8th the CityCenter Danbury green. There will still be all the sights and sounds of the Emerald Isle, plenty of Irish food and beer, and lots of entertainment… and the event is still free. Land Trust Gains Acreage

The Bethel Land Trust has announced plans to acquire a Sunset Hill Road property. It’s part of the 3.38-acre property at 7T Sunset Hill Road in Bethel that the Board of Selectmen voted to transfer to the Bethel Land Trust for the preservation of open space earlier this week… on Tuesday. The property has an appraised value of $1,400 and an assessed value of $980 and it will join the more than 250 acres of land that have gone under the trust’s protection since its founding in 1977.


Danbury Lottery Winner

One Danbury resident is worth a few more dollars now after winning a 6-figure payout from the Connecticut lotter. The lottery has confirmed that a resident of Danbury won $100,000 on an Extreme Green​ scratch ticket that was recently sold in Danbury at JB Wine & Spirits on Newtown Road. The Connecticut Lottery no longer announces winners full names in an attempt to protect them from scammers.


New Laws Take Effect This Weekend

Get ready for some new laws that will be going into effect this weekend. As of Sunday, October 1st, a new law will prohibit people from openly carrying handguns, and gun buyers will be limited to three firearms purchases per month. It will become a crime for anyone to post information on social media in advance of so-called street takeovers. Victims of domestic violence will be shielded from having to pay alimony to abusive ex-spouses, and electric utilities will have to give residential customers $25 credits for each day they experience power outages for more than 96 consecutive hours.


Republican Candidates to Appear on Independent Ballot Lines

In the upcoming November 7th citywide election, the names of Republican-endorsed candidates will also be listed on the Independent Party of Danbury lines of the ballot… unless there are legal challenges by local Democrats. It all comes about as local Republicans and Independent Party of Danbury Town Committee leaders say the slate of candidates endorsed back in August is the party’s legally endorsed slate. At the top of the ballot is incumbent Republican Mayor Dean Esposito, who is running in an election rematch against Democrat Roberto Alves, his opponent in 2021.


Ridgefield Man Arrested After Box Cutter Incident

A man from Ridgefield has been arrested by Danbury Police in connection with a stabbing that happened last month in Danbury. 29 year old Zachary Orsher is now facing charges including second degree assault and disorderly conduct after the incident involving a box cutter that happened back on August 26th at a home on Washington Avenue in Danbury as Orsher and the other man argued over money. The victim was treated at Danbury Hospital. Orsher turned himself in, but when he did he was found to be in possession of metal brass knuckles, so he also now faces an additional felony charge of carrying a dangerous weapon. He was jailed, but later released after posting bond.


Chase Crash Arrest in Brookfield

A multi vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon around 3 happened in Brookfield on Route 25 near White Pine Drive. Brookfield police say four vehicles involved and the driver of the vehicle that learned was at fault, had fled on foot prior to their arrival. When officers found him hiding in an enclosed outdoor shower, they say he took up a fighting stance and refused to comply… until the arrival of a K-9… at which time he instantly put his hands and was taken into custody. The man… whose name has not yet been released… was hit with a long list of charges, then posted bond and was released.


Danbury High School Awarded

A record number of 29 Connecticut high schools were recently recognized for their exemplary athletics programs and sportsmanship standards. Among them was Danbury High School, which was awarded the Michaels Jewelers Achievement Cup Award for sportsmanship. Danbury High and the other winning schools will all be formally recognized during a conference on October 3.
