Officers named in East Harford police shooting

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Authorities have released the names of two Connecticut police officers involved in the shooting death of a high school psychologist while responding to a domestic violence incident.

Windham State's Attorney Anne Mahoney on Tuesday said Andre Lyew and Daniel Zaleski were the two East Hartford officers involved in last Thursday's death of 44-year-old John Carras.

Lyew has been an East Hartford officer since December 2018. He was previously a New Haven officer. Zaleski has been an East Hartford officer since December 2003.

Carras, a psychologist at Berlin High School, was shot during a struggle with the officers. Both officers were treated for injuries at the hospital.

Nicole Carras, John Carras' sister, said her brother was the "light in my life" and the officers' actions were wrong.

The death remains under investigation.
