Longtime fire marshal killed in motor vehicle crash

The longtime fire marshal of Orange, Connecticut has been killed in a motor vehicle crash. Police say Timothy Smith died after his vehicle stuck a tree Sunday afternoon on Litchfield Turnpike in Woodbridge. No other vehicles were involved in the incident,and there were no passenger's in Smith's car. The 56-year-old resident of Prospect had served as Orange's fire marshal since 1989. The crash remains under investigation. The New Haven Register reports that Smith was returning home from a fire call.
