Legal cannabis bill clears state Senate, Lamont to sign it

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - The Senate has approved a bill that legalizes the recreational use of cannabis for adults and Gov. Ned Lamont says he'll sign it into law. That would make Connecticut the 19th state to do so. Thursday's vote of 16 to 11 marked the final legislative action on the bill. The bill lays the groundwork for the new industry in Connecticut, which could begin as soon as summer of 2022. The bill also makes it legal for adults ages 21 and older to possess small amounts of marijuana beginning July 1. The Senate on Thursday also approved a wide-ranging budget-related bill.
