BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) A mentally disabled 19-year-old is accused of sexually assaulting another disabled student in a bathroom at Harding High School.

Patrick Nolan of Bridgeport was charged Wednesday with first-degree sexual assault, risk of injury to a child and third-degree abuse.

The Connecticut Post reports the incident occurred last August, on the second day of classes, while other students watched, cheered and shot a video of the assault. Police began investigating after being contacted by the mother of the 16-year-old male victim.

Interim Superintendent of Schools Fran Rabinowitz says as a result of the incident, the school district has made recommendations about increasing supervision of student bathrooms.

The state Department of Children and Families also has been investigating to determine where the teens' supervisors were at the time of the assault.
