End set for state oversight of New London schools

NEW LONDON, Conn. (AP) The state Board of Education plans to end its oversight of New London schools next year.

The Day of New London reports Special Master Steven Adamowski presented a report to the board Wednesday detailing improvements in student achievement and the district's finances since he was appointed in June 2012.

He recommended one more year of state oversight.

Education Commissioner Stefan Pryor says the board plans to release the city from its supervision by July 1, 2015.

City Board of Education President Margaret Mary Curtin said she supports the decision.

The city's Board of Education recently appointed a new superintendent, who will take charge of the district on Aug. 1.
