Conn. Woman arrested on I-684 on drug charges

BEDFORD, N.Y. (AP) New York State police say a passenger in a car pulled over for speeding was found to be carrying 85 pills of the painkiller Oxycodone.

After stopping the car on Interstate 684, police say a search revealed the passenger, Johannie Cruz of Waterbury, Connecticut, had marijuana and painkillers on her.

The Journal News says the 25 year old was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell.

The car's driver, Mildred Betancourt, also of Waterbury, was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs. She also was charged with speeding and unlicensed operation.

The arrests occurred Friday afternoon.

The women were arraigned in Bedford Town Court. Cruz was held in Westchester County jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.
