Police today are expected to release the identity of the 16-year-old Greenwich High School student killed in a boating accident that also seriously injured another 16-year-old girl.

Authorities say the girls had been tubing Wednesday in Long Island Sound near Greenwich when they were struck by the propeller of the boat towing them. Two other girls, also 16, were operating the boat.

One of the girls died at the scene off Greenwich Point Park. The other had a soft-tissue leg injury that required extensive stitching, but she was expected to recover.

Authorities were still investigating what they called a tragic accident.

The superintendent of Greenwich schools said the girl who died was a rising junior. Police are expected to release her name today after family had time to notify extended relatives.
