Officials believe Bridgeport fire was arson

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) Bridgeport officials say they believe a large fire at the vacant former Remington Arms gun factory was the work of an arsonist.

The blaze burned through the top two floors of the five-story brick building on Tuesday. No injuries were reported. Firefighters spent the night at the factory making sure no hot spots flared up.

Fire officials say they suspect arson because two fires broke out at the complex at about the same time, including the one in the five-story building and another smaller fire down the street.

The factory complex that shut down in the 1980s has been the scene of many fires over the years.

Officials are trying to determine if embers from Tuesday's fire started a blaze at a nearby home. Ten people were displaced.
