HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) Hartford Police Union leaders are criticizing Police Chief James Rovella for walking with protesters during a demonstration against a city officer's use of a stun gun on a teenager.
The union president, Sgt. Richard Holton, said Thursday that Rovella sent the wrong message to the police force and conveyed anti-police sentiments by being in the march Wednesday evening.
Rovella said he wanted to assure protesters that there would be a thorough investigation of the use of force against 18-year-old Luis Anglero on Aug. 19.
Holton also criticized Gov. Dannel P. Malloy for saying he was ``momentarily sickened'' by a surveillance video showing the incident. A Malloy spokesman says the governor reacted the way any parent would.
Police are investigating Detective Shawn Ware's use of a stun gun on Anglero.
