Bridgeport man pleads guilty in car theft, TV-like crash

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) A Bridgeport man faces 15 years in prison after police say he stole a car and fled with the owner clinging to the roof.

The Connecticut Post reports Carlos Vidal Jr. pleaded guilty Thursday to larceny and assault charges.

Prosecutors say the victim witnessed Vidal stealing his car May 17, 2013 and jumped onto the roof to stop him.

They say Vidal drove at a high speed for about six blocks before crashing into another car and then a house.

The victim was flung from the car, suffered a broken neck and later needed to have his arm amputated.

Police say while fleeing, Vidal stopped to kiss a woman who had come outside to view the crash scene.

Sentencing is scheduled for July 10.
