1 of 7 serial victims identified as woman slain by inmate

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) The remains of a woman an inmate was convicted of killing have been identified as one of seven victims found buried in the woods behind a Connecticut shopping center.

Police announced Wednesday they've confirmed the remains are those of Nilsa Arizmendi. Investigators found her remains and those of three other people last month in the area of New Britain where three partial skeletons were found in 2007.

William Devin Howell is serving a 15-year prison sentence for manslaughter in Arizmendi's slaying. Arizmendi was last seen in his van in Connecticut, where he had been doing odd jobs.

Authorities say they believe one person was responsible for all seven deaths. Howell hasn't been charged in the other six deaths.

A lawyer who represented Howell in the manslaughter case has declined to comment.
