State forensic lab conducting DNA tests on severed limbs

MERIDEN, Conn. (AP) New Haven police say it should take about a week to receive the results of DNA tests on severed limbs and arms found last week near a city train station.

The New Haven Register reports samples from the legs and arms have been sent to the state forensic lab in Meriden, which is conducting mitochondrial DNA testing.

Those tests can link the DNA to any maternal relative.

Police say they don't know if the limbs are all from the same body or if they are dealing with multiple victims.

Two legs were located near the State Street train station on the morning of July 15. The arms, which did not have hands attached, were located in a plastic bag later that day.
