NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) A former fire chief in Connecticut has been found guilty of using town money to pay for his private electrical business and personal expenses.

A federal jury in New Haven Thursday convicted 47-year-old Paul Perrotti, of Middlebury, of two of three counts of theft concerning programs receiving federal funds.

Perrotti was arrested last year on charges that he embezzled more than $70,000 from Middlebury while serving as the fire chief to operate his business from 2011 to 2013. He pleaded not guilty.

Officials say Perrotti wrote checks to employees, to his company's vendors for supplies and to third parties that would give money to him.

Perrotti's attorney says they will appeal the verdict.

He's facing up to 10 years in prison when he's sentenced on Oct. 29.
