Police: Woman likely set house fire that took her life

STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) — Police say a Stamford woman found dead after a fire in her home apparently set the blaze.

Authorities were called to the North Stamford home at around 7:30 a.m. Monday.

Police Lt. Diedrich Hohn says the woman's brother who lived nearby found smoke in the home and found the woman in a second-floor room.

Hohn tells the Stamford Advocate that evidence shows the woman set the fire before succumbing to smoke inhalation.

He says investigators searched the residence and removed several items indicate she meant to take her own life.

Her name has not been released.
