HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) A Connecticut man accused of brutally assaulting a woman earlier this year has pleaded guilty to charges of sexual assault, kidnapping and strangulation.
The Hartford Courant reports 43-year-old James Polk, of South Windsor, entered a plea agreement with prosecutors Tuesday.
The agreement required him to plead guilty to two counts of sexual assault and one count each of kidnapping and strangulation in exchange for a 28-year prison sentence. He could have faced up to 75 years.
Police say Polk attacked and raped a woman in East Windsor in March whom he met at a club.
Police say that when they confronted Polk, who was armed with a knife, he slit his throat.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 2.
