Man who drowned after bar fight identified

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) — Authorities have identified the man who apparently drowned in a creek after getting into a fight outside a restaurant early Saturday morning.

Bridgeport city spokesman Brett Broesder said the body of 42-year-old Wayne Bentley, of West Haven, was recovered from Ash Creek behind Chubby's Bar & Grill, which is located on the Bridgeport-Fairfield City line.

He said on Sunday the cause of death has not yet been confirmed.

Bridgeport Police received a call around 1:15 a.m. Saturday regarding a fight between two people. Both apparently fell into the creek.

Authorities said the other person involved in the fight fled the scene. Broesder confirmed police are still looking for that individual.

Anyone with information is asked to call Bridgeport police at 203-576-1311.
