Pregnant woman killed, baby delivered after car crash

STONINGTON, Conn. (AP) Connecticut police say an infant was delivered by emergency cesarean section after the expecting mother died in a single-car crash on Interstate 95.

It happened around 11 a.m. Tuesday in Stonington.

Police say 26-year-old Alexandra Brown of Niantic was driving southbound on I-95 when her car went off the road, struck a guardrail and rolled.

Police say she was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the car.

Brown was pronounced dead at Westerly Hospital in Rhode Island.

Police say she was nine months pregnant. The baby was delivered at the hospital and then taken to Women and Infants Hospital of Rhode Island. Police say the infant was in critical, but stable condition Tuesday night.

The crash is under investigation.
