Subway car that withstood 9/11 attacks given to Conn. Museum

EAST HAVEN, Conn. (AP) Bagpipers played and emergency responders lined a procession route as a PATH subway car that withstood the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center was escorted to its new home at a Connecticut museum.

PATH Car 745 was formally donated to the Shoreline Trolley Museum in East Haven on Thursday. The car was parked in the PATH station under the World Trade Center during the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

The car was found relatively unscathed during the recovery effort 19 days after the attacks. It is expected to go on display at the museum this weekend.

The Port Authority of New York New Jersey says the subway car is among 43 artifacts from 9/11 that have been collected by 35 organizations in Connecticut.
