Family of teen who died in fire files wrongful death suit

SOUTHINGTON, Conn. (AP) The family of a teen who died in a fire after a Southington man threw a firecracker into her bedroom has filed a wrongful death lawsuit.

Kristen Milano's family filed the suit against the owner of the apartment where the fire started for allegedly failing to install a screen on Milano's window the family claims they repeatedly asked for.

The suit also names the town of Southington and its fire departments as defendants.

Eric Morelli was sentenced last month to seven years in prison for the death of 19-year-old Milano. Morelli told police he went to the apartment hoping to awaken Kristen's brother.

Her brother and his aunt managed to escape the flames. Milano died of smoke inhalation.
