85 Yale fraternity members face trial in tailgate death suit

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) A judge has ruled that 85 members of a Yale University fraternity face trial in a lawsuit brought by the families of two victims of a crash during tailgating events before a football game against Harvard in 2011.

The New Haven Register reports that Judge Kari Dooley at Superior Court in Waterbury previously had ruled that the national fraternity is a party to the suit

Members of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity were driving to a tailgating event in a U-Haul truck carrying kegs when the driver lost control, and accelerated into a crowd of people, killing one and injuring two. The suit was filed by the family of the woman who died and one of the women injured.

The suit seeks to hold the fraternity responsible for the driver's actions.
