Hartford man charged in city's 23rd homicide of year

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) Hartford police have made an arrest in connection with the city's 23rd homicide of the year the shooting of a man found near the federal courthouse and City Hall.

Twenty-seven-year-old Anthony Christiana of Hartford was charged Thursday with murder, conspiracy and gun crimes in the Aug. 31 killing of 32-year-old William Prieto at his apartment building on South Prospect Street. Police say the motive was drugs and money.

Christiana is detained on $1 million bail. His lawyer didn't immediately return a phone message Thursday.

Police say Prieto died of multiple gunshots to his upper torso.

Christiana has several drug-related convictions and several pending drug cases.

Hartford has 26 homicides this year the highest total in all of New England including Boston.
