WATERBURY, Conn. (AP) - State police say one man has died in an early morning crash on Route 8 in Waterbury.

Police say a minivan driven by 35-year-old Roy Gruner, of Beacon Falls, was heading south at about 2:15 a.m. Friday when it veered off the road, went down an embankment and struck a tree.

Gruner was taken to Waterbury Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The reason the vehicle went off the road is under investigation.

Police are asking any witnesses to the crash to contact them.
