Authorities stop apparent gang hit outside Bridgeport court

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) Authorities say they stopped alleged gang members from shooting an 18-year-old man outside a state courthouse in Bridgeport.

City Police Chief Armando Perez told the Connecticut Post that city officers and judicial marshals foiled an apparent ``hit'' Thursday on Fabian ``Fab'' Francis outside Superior Court on Golden Hill Street.

Police say they arrested three would-be shooters and seized two loaded handguns.

Authorities say Francis was in court Thursday to face criminal charges when he was confronted in the lobby by members of the 150 Marina gang. Police allege Francis is a member of a rival gang who was acquitted four months ago of a gang-related shooting.

Authorities say marshals forced Francis and the opposing gang members outside, where other gang members waiting with guns in a car were arrested.
